eBay "Identification Check"

Hi,
I was checking my credit file when I noticed a search from the end of last year on my credit file by GB Group Plc. on behalf of eBay Inc. for an "Identification Check".
Firstly, does this show up on my credit file to other companies who search my file?
Additionally, the details they used to search my file were partially incorrect (for some reason my first name is "unknown" and my DoB is not exactly correct). I'm not sure how they got this incorrect information as I checked on my eBay account and they seem to have all correct details. Will these incorrect details have any negative effects?
Also while I did sign up for eBay around this time I did not authorise them to perform a credit search. I checked their user agreement and privacy policy and the only mention of a credit check is:
"if you incur a debt to eBay, we will generally conduct a credit check by obtaining additional information about you from a credit bureau, as permitted by law"
I've never owed eBay any money nor have I even sold anything via eBay. I only signed up to purchase one item, which was paid using buy it now (i.e I paid when I bought it, at no point did I owe anyone money) and I have not even logged into my account since then. In fact the date of the search was when I opened the account, I'd not even purchased anything by then.
Are eBay just allowed to perform a credit search without my explicit permission?
Thanks

It will be an ID check only - and won't effect the credit report in any way. It won't bee seen by others either.0
