eBay gift voucher fraud? Or just stupidity?

I did put this on the eBay board but I'm now thinking it is more suited to here.

My friend just put up a gift voucher on eBay and photographed the flipping code. I was looking at her auctions to see if there was anything I fancied, spotted it, checked it on the store online and lo and behold, it's been used.

My friends a bit gutted and was wondering if the person could be tracked as it was online, or is it a case (as I think) that she's been daft and she's lost it?
Thanks in advance

They'll be gentler with you there.
I'd take the loss and put it down to experience.

Is it an online code? Surely the shop can track the order and who used it?

Online code on a physical voucher. It's definitely been used online so thought it could maybe be tracked :) I'll tell her to look into it but it'll be hard to prove it's stolen when she put it on the internet...

They wouldn't give just anyone this information, it would have to be requested by police.so she would have to report it first.
