Stud wall insulation

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help, i am going to insulate a stud wall and i have been looking at different insulation to go between the studs, but there is so many i am a bit confused. Can anyone suggest the easiest one to fit (i am guessing 150mm thick to fit in between the studs) from e.g. wickes or homebase etc.

Stud walls - is this internal walls within your house? Are you looking to insulate for thermal or noise reasons? Different insulation is specialised for different scenarios. I can't comment further but it may help someone else suggest something.

Hi. Thats right. I have a side loft off my bedroom and would like to insulate the back of that wall so the bedroom is warmer. I have seen some videos with insulation which you staple to the studs but dont seem to be able to find it? Thanks

Are the studs really 150mm thick? That's pretty thick for a stud wall. If they are I would strip the lining off one side and fill the gaps with slab type insulation, say one layer of this http://www.wickes.co.uk/invt/161236 100mm insulation and one layer of the 50mm equivalent to fill the whole cavity. As the timber studs aren't very good insulators you could then replace the lining with insulation-backed plasterboard.

We have recently had a Combi boiler repositioned on studwork and plasterboard in a Garage using something similar to this.

  • I would also go with what Moneymate has suggested and i think sheffield insulation are a good supplier of this ridgid type of insulation of which there are a few manufacturers. Celotex and Kingspan being the biggest.
