Kindle Fire HD - apps?

I'm thinking about buying my 10 year old a Kindle Fire HD for Christmas - the £119 one, I can't afford to newer one. I was looking at Hudls but am put off by lack of parental controls.
But the Fire has no camera
I can't find any details about the apps that are available - what is the range like? Is there enough to offset the lack of camera? (I ask because seeing how my iPad gets used when the 10yr old lays hands on it, I suspect a camera would be the most-used feature!)

There is a front facing camera on the 8.9" Fire HD and the newer 7" HDX for Skype etc. but I think you need to get a separate app to use it as a camera. The 8.9" HDX has front and rear facing camera.0

Kindle has a lot less apps than the Google Play store .
Hudle may not have built in parent control but the play store is full of them .

A shame the Hudl doesn't run Android 4.3 which comes with better user-account set-up to limit what can or can't be done.
Still better than the Kindle which is a window-shop to Amazon0 -

Strong possibility that it may receive 4.3 update .
Thats going to be up to the hardware and that looks up to spec .Vendors decision to provide updates or not is the key question .0
