Lieu benefits in addition to PILON

I've been made redundant and my notice period finishes at the end of december, however I have agreed to work to the end of November and take the rest in PILON. The only employee benefit i get is private health insurance.
My question is do employee benefits continue until the end of the lieu period also? What happens to employee benefits during a lieu period?
A bit of background: the reason I ask is that due to an project which would provide my financially sinking employers with extra cash, i put off going to my doctor to get an MRI sorted on an injury, the result of which is likely to be surgery for a torn ligament. As i was a key person in the project they would not have been able to complete it properly or on time without me. The bulk of the work being charged out was mine and the timescales were very tight. Please understand this was my decision, i was not coerced, although i was told i was vital to the success of the project by my manager, which made me more committed to making sure the project was done properly.
The project ended yesterday so I went to the doctor's today and am being referred for an MRI. However I was very surprised to find that my employers have notified the health insurers that my cover is to cease at the end of November. This means if an op is needed after the MRI and the process runs into December to avoid footing the bill or going NHS, I have to take on a continuation of the policy - at a cost of over £240 a month until the claim is complete.
I didn't want to go NHS, because i have to find another job as quickly as possible and that's going to be difficult with this issue hanging over me. There will be problem with sick pay in a new job, and being viewed as being less committed etc if i am put on the waiting list for an operation that could happen at any time. Also I wouldn't feel i was treating a new employer fairly going on the sick if I'd only been there five minutes, plus it could harm my career in the long run.

The point of PILON is that your contract is terminated early, you could ask for compensation to include the cost of the health cover(I expect the company pays less than it would cost you) or for them to extend the cover
Ask to change to garden leave so your contract end at the end of notice, that saves you one lot of £2400
