Universal Credit, not happening?

Just seen it on BBC News, is Universal Credit been scrapped now? if yes then I am not surprised as its a disaster waiting to happen.

But if it hasn't then when do you think I will move on to Universal Credit? as I am on Jobseekers and I live in the North West (Burnley)

I just hope I get a job before then :)

It hasn't been scrapped - just the usual stories of what a disaster the IT project is, as happens with pretty much every govt IT project. They'll get there, just later than planned.

Could be the government having a rethink now.

    very doubtful.
these changes are popular and so will probaby be seen through to the end.

all governments seem to have IT issues, probably because they give the contrct to the cheapest bidder, rather than the one that will do a good job
  • I believe the end of 2017 was the government deadline.

Just remember that the BBC is a little bit pro Labour, just as Sky tends to lean towards the Tories.

It will happen, just maybe not to the ambitious timetable they have set themselves.

Just heard Clegg say on the news that it is understandable that there will be glitches in respect of peoples benefit payments not being on time, correct etc. Get real Clegg it's a major issue for most claimants.
  • Local Authorities had 9 months to scrap Council Tax Benefit and create a new local scheme with new software and IT systems to administer it. Every Local Authority delivered on time and on or under budget.
These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.

If they refused the Government would have imposed a scheme with potential loss of subsidy.

And that would be illegal. So instead of the local authority running the local authority you would have had government administrators running the local authority. How would that have helped anyone? Local authorities do not make the law, and they have no right to do anything other than lobby or express an opinion to those who do make the law. If the 35% of people who didn't bother voting at the last election had had the b@lls to turn out and vote, maybe the Tories wouldn't have been in a position to do any dirty work?

there was a loss, now even the poorest person of working age pays some council tax, someone in the next town to us pays 23% or £300 or £6 a week out of £72 jsa
