Scart to HDMI ??

Hi

Bit of a technophobe so here goes

I have a Sony Home theatre System (Scart) and a New Samsung Smart TV (HDMI) , will one of these do the trick ?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/SCART-HDMI-converter-convert-PS2%C2%A3%C2%ACPS3%C2%A3%C2%ACPSP/dp/B0092IAA3I/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1383837992&sr=1-1&keywords=scart+to+hdmi+converter

Some forums say that they are two different systems and won't work

Any advice (short of buying a new HDMI Home cinema) ??
Thanks

What exactly are your trying to achieve?
What exact model of theater system have you got?

Is your home theater system a DVD player with surround sound? In which case should be able to plug it straight into your TV(of course if it wont be in HD) I haven't seen many new HD screen which don't still come with a scart socket.

If your trying to convert the signal from Blu ray/hd satellite box to scart yes you can do that but you want a HDMI to SCART converter but you'll lose the HD part, plus you wont get full surround sound. So rather pointless.

If you want surround sound with Blu ray/hd satellite box then you'll need a theater box with either a HDMI port or Depending on your other equipment Optical/digital coax input.

Which home theater system have you got? You can't get full surround sound out of scart connection so has your system got optical/digital coax inout Port?

I would never suggest going from hdmi to scart because of the difference in quality. Does your system have a toslink (optical in) or co-ax in ?
If so, I would use this and just send the sound to the system. A decent hdmi 3d enabled AV amp would set you back about £200 - £250

I just looked at the spec's for a few (randomly selected!) Samsung Smart TV's and they all still had at least one SCART socket fitted...

Have you checked around the back to be sure there isn't one on the TV? in which case you can just hook it up. What model TV is it?

I can see what your trying to do with that box but a converter can't make a signal higher resolution than it was to start, although the box would let you connect to the TV via an HDMI port, nothing would be gained as the picture would be no better than if it were just fed in by SCART, probably worse in fact as its had another stage of conversion done on it.

He wants to go from scart > hdmi, not hdmi to scart.

The Home cinema is a set of speakers and a DVD/Blueray player so its the SOURCE feeding INTO the TV...

But I don't believe he needs to do anything. SCART isn't totally extinct yet.
