Unexpected visit about our Student Daughter?

Options
Hi,
A bit of a strange one this...

Our daughter who still lives at home with us is currently at Uni studying performing Arts and has been to college before studying the same.

We had a knock at the door from two women saying they are from 16-19 education and are just calling to see how our daughter has got on since leaving school. She spoke to them and they asked her a few questions about what she was studying and where and also if she was living at home.

Now it just seems a bit strange and wondered if any student here has had a similar experience?

Our daughter recently had her Uni grant and loan, so i am thinking that it could be them doing a spot check to make sure her application was true?

We have no idea, it just seems a bit out of the ordinary.

Thanks.

"From 16-19 education" doesn't mean very much, what did it actually say on their ID?

    Did she show any ID?
Give you any documentation supporting her bona fides?
Call in on anyone else in the area that you know of?
Ask for information you might have thought she already knew eg bank details?

    That makes sense then.

It won't be about the student finance, I expect they're following up client destinations.

Having been left none the wiser despite Dunroamin seeming to be happy that 16-19 Connexions is an explanation I looked a bit further into it. It appears to be a facility run by local authorities for young people to search for jobs and training, such as this one

Was your daughter registered with a local organisation of this type before starting at University?

I had phone calls from Connexions when I went to Uni asking me if I was now working or in Education. I think they even called me after I had graduated asking if I was now working. I think it probably helps to justify their existence.

Connexions is (or was in some areas) the revamped version of the Careers Service, it's been around for over 10 years, so I'm surprised you haven't come across it before.

I don't think I've ever used in it any guise, and I've never found a job through any government agency so my experience of them is pretty limited. I guess the OP was also unaware of what Connexions is, which is why I decided to find out and post a bit more.

I think most parents of teenagers have heard of Connexions which usually aren't government agencies.
