Hi,
Re: Any flight deals for Australia in December?
Probably not the cheapest time too travel, but my Mother has just been diagnosed with cancer. So want too visit and spend Xmas with her. Any tips on time and day of travel, recommended airlines with good legroom.
Thanks

the flights normally increase from about 8th/10th December so to get a reasonable fare you would likely need to go before then or possibly look to see if you can get a decent(ish) fare if you travel on Xmas day (and have a delayed Xmas with your mum)
What is your ideal dates and what is the best fare you have found so far?0 -
Work dictates dates of 17th Dec outbound and 8th Jan return. Cheapest I have seen on searching web is around 1300 to 1400 with south china airlines, whose reviews are not inspiring.0

Where are you flying from and to?0

London to Brisbane0

How do you feel about flying Christmas Day? We did it a few years back, it was about half the price!0

Cathay do those exact dates for about £1700, or £1400 if you are willing to come back on the 30th of December. Much better airline, and it's worth the extra to have a good experience. It's a long way, and arriving shattered is no good to anyone.
It's cheap to travel on the days between Christmas and NY as people don't like to travel.
If you can convince work to move your dates so you can leave a week earlier, then you could go on the 8th, and return on the 30th for £1055. Gives you as much time for much less, but obviously depends on whether you can get the time off.
Depending on where you Mum is with her treatment she may not need you full time. I had cancer earlier this year and my sister came over, but she also gave me plenty of time to be alone too, which I did need from time to time.
Being sick also made me realise that nothing else is important. You won't remember the few hundred quid in a few years time. Go and be with your Mum.0 -

I'm afraid it's the worst possible time to travel to Australia.
This year it's coupled with the fact that thousands of England cricket supporters are travelling down under for the Ashes.
Whatever is the best deal you can find take it now as prices will go up as availability comes down.
Sorry to hear about your mother.0 -
Thanks for all your comments. Flight booked with Cathay Pacific. We considered seats with an extra 4" of leg room and 1" wider at a cost of £2000.00, we decided against it. Now looking at booking an hire car collecting at the airport. Going through Travel Super Market which is coming up with the best initial prices, but have not followed it all the way to the basket. No doubt with loads of extras. Anybody done this before and possible pitfalls?
