Issues getting default removed.

Hi,

Background:

On DMP, getting towards end. Earlier this year one creditor (HSBC CC) defaulted me this year because they send the payment back saying the account did not exist (happened a couple of times, stepchange always sent it again with the next months payment).

Obviously not happy getting a new default at this stage (TBH wished I had stopped paying for 6 months at the start and pushed the issue, but too late now).

Wrote complaint letter to them. Got reply on 27th June. They agreed with me and said they would remove the default, and to leave it 6-8 weeks to check.

Have finally checked (noddle, equifax, waiting for experian) and the default still appears.

Specifically. On noddle get .. in Jul to Oct. DF in Apr to Jun. I take it this means they have not updated the account for 4 months. Looking at equifax show much the same.

What would you suggest I do now? What would be most likely to sort the issue? Would a letter back to HSBC complaints be best. Should I send 2 copies, 1 signed for? What should I say to them. Would contacting the credit agencies be easier? Or is there someone else to complain to?

Thanks.

To be honest, as you have been in correspondence with HSBC and they have agreed to take action, I would pick the phone up to them. My experience is that these companies deal with things like default removals in two ways (i) by sticking the request in a pile and it gets done eventually - I guess what has happened to you or (ii) they can fast track it and its done pretty much straight away. You suggest that someone adopts (ii)!

You can go back into writing, but as you're not contesting anything now, just getting them to do what they said they would do, try a call first.

Do you have defaults on file for any other creditors in your DMP? If yes it may actually be better in the long run to leave this one on.

It would seem as if the OP does have defaults from other creditors, but that they are from some time ago, presumably nearer the start of the DMP. The issue is HSBC deciding to put on a default at this stage, which is going to hang around for another 6 years and blight their credit report. I can understand why they are trying to get it removed, which HSBC have agreed to, so what simeyb is suggesting seems eminently sensible.

  • Give them chance to fix it.

After that, go to FOS. That is likely to work but could take 6 months+

Cheers. I dug out the letter called them and waited for a call back.

They said they did will process this urgently.

So hopefully it will happen this time.

How long do you think is reasonable before checking my reports again? (Of course I being free I shall check noddle each month anyway).

And yes I did not want this as another default as the other defaults while not yet about to drop off are a few years old and a new one would feel like a set back.

Depends when the lender submits their agency update
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
