Wedding Present

What kind of present are you supposed to get for someone who hasn't prepared a wedding list? They live together and have lived together for a while and have a little girl together.
There's been no mention of vouchers for anywhere in particular shop and we get the impression they don't particularly want to get married, but are doing it for their families.
I have champagne, but not sure if something like that is appropriate. Surely they already will have loads?

Why not get them a voucher for a family photograph from a local photographer? That way, it will be something nice for them to do to capture their child and them together and it isn't particularly associating memories with the wedding.
I got given one as a christmas present and loved it.Sealed Pot Challenge Member Number #19060 -
A lot of people don't like to ask for anything if they have already been living together for a while, some people view it as cheeky to ask for money or vouchers.
But deep down...that is probably what they are hoping for!!

You could buy something from somewhere that does gift receipts and enclose it, making it clear that you have no problem if they would like to exchange it. That way you give them the best of all worlds...0

Pollyanna, because you mentioned champage, I instantly remembered the wedding hamper basket that some one made up on the OS board. I dont know if your friends are spending their wedding night in a hotel, but the wedding hamper basket was a brilliant idea. It had champagne, glasses, crisps, strawberries, etc.......just lots of nibbley bits really. But the lady had it waiting in the couples bedroom after the wedding so they could enjoy it on their own IYSWIM.
Apart from that, gift vouchers I guess.
When I got married we didnt get any presents, not because we didnt want any, but because from booking the wedding to it actually taking place was just over 2 weeks, so not much time to prepare anything really. And presents just weren't important.I also remember the words of my friends, but I would rather have enemies than friends like you

I got married three weeks ago and since pretty much everyone bought off list I'm an authority on this as we got some lovely things :-)
We did get four bottles of champagne, and eight glasses to drink it from! But I don't think you can have too much of it, particularly good stuff as you can save it for another occasion if you don't drink it straight away (I think)
We were bought a tree which was lovely! http://www.carbonneutral.com/shop/details.asp?productid=952&productname=MarryMe/CarbonNeutral%20Wedding%20pack
We were given a peronsalised plate to hang up with our names and wedding date on.
Millions of Argos vouchers, in fact we could now buy the Warrington Branch of Argos! Oh but if you want to get generic vouchers you can get a voucher express gift certificate then they can pick which vouchers they'd like (they basically buy vouchers with it I think!) :-) http://www.voucherexpress.co.uk/asp/moredetails_TEMPLATE.asp?name=moredetails&id=7
But I have to say I love the hamper idea above, I actually cried when I read it thinking how lovely that would have been to get back to! May I recommend adding bubble bath and things to it as well, I did have a tummy bug but I felt really yucky and achy when I got back (and had to wash all the hair spray out my hair)!Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!0 -
It depends on how well you know the people.
I didn't know where to start with a list, but did okay. I got pushed into saying I wanted Eternal Beau and regretted it ever since
My mum got me the best wedding present. She did not have a lot of money, so every week she bought one store cupboard item - beans, soup, pasta, etc. She bought washing up liquid, polish, dusters and even saved up and got a shed load of frozen stuff that she gave us the week after. If the couple getting married are paying for it themselves, and if you know them well, it may be worth trying this.
Otherwise, try getting something from M&S that they can exchange if they want to - it's an amazing standby.:D
Have a great time at the wedding!

On a few occasions for various celebrations (weddings/births/21st birthdays etc) I have bought a bottle of (decent) champagne which I have then had the bottle engraved. It makes it a little more special I think.Fight for clean hospitals, C-DIFF takes lives

For me I want to give wedding presents that will last, so that in years to come the recipients can say 'so and so gave us that for our wedding'.
A nice picture, photo frame, fruit bowl.0 -
All very good ideas, thank you! The wedding is tomorrow, so I am a bit limited on time, oops!Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

Depending on their views you might find that one of the charity type gift lists might be something a bit different - e.g. a goat for a third world country etc. Its very much not to everyones taste but if they genuinely feel they have everything so aren't asking and have ethical views something like this might be novel especially if you choose something that will appeal to the child as well. There are various sites that do it - you just pay for it online and they send a card detailing what you've bought for them. I'm not going to recommend a specific charity but if you really don't have any preferences then I know World Vision and Oxfam both do this.Adventure before Dementia!0
