many people opened these around 1997, 1.00 was/is required for membership, i have been wondering y i never had any communications regarding the account so i looked into matters, this is the info i gleaned
seems as if the different divisions of coop merged in 2000/2001

i rang the membership freephone no today was told that in 2003 they stopped paying interest on the share accounts, at the time they advised people to withdraw all their money apart from 1.00 if they wanted to keep membership.
impression that was given in 1997 was that just 1.00 was needed in share account to gain a windfall should coop demutalise, today from phone call i gained similar impression. ( no indication was given that they will demutalise it should be noted)
despite new computer system and inactivity for 10 years, i was told my details are on the new system and that my 5.00 balance had grown to 6.23 ( prob cos i had 50.00 in it for 4 months
)
i was invited to send book in if i wanted to withdraw 5.23 leaving 1.00 in for membership, i mentioned about never receiving any communications over the years and i asked about voting etc, lady i spoke to said shed put me on voting list
address is now The Cooperative Membership, PO Box 3801 Coventry CV4 8WY
guess the answer is for people to update their details on coop system, by ringing the freephone no in my earlier post ( 2nd link) and sit tight with those 1.00 memberships
thought this info might be usefull for someone/some people :cool: ( please note this info is only applicable to coop retail issued share savings accounts and has nothing to do with cooperative bank savings accounts)
