Expedition fee

A £45 + VAT expedition fee has been added to our statement of conveyancing charges.

This is because we will now have to exchange and complete almost simultaneously, despite the fact we agreed a completion date (of this Friday) two weeks ago and have been ready to exchange since then.

This makes me wonder, if the delay in exchange taking place we are experiencing has been purposefully carried out by the solicitors to allow them to charge this fee. The delay has been through no fault of our own.

Anyone else had similar? I have suggested to our solicitors that the fee is unfair as we didn't specifically ask to exchange and complete within a few days.

Comments

  • When we had a quotes for conveyancing it clearly said that if there is less than a week between exchange and completion this would attract additional fees - in the quotes we received it was a lot more than £45 plus vat!
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

I think you will find there are much easier ways for solicitors to make £45!
