Picking up my new (to me) estate car on sat!
It has a dog guard in but I want like a gate just inside the boot
I don't really need the expense of a double cage but would like to be able to open boot and dogs not escape
I have seen one but they had it made and it's bolted th floor
Any ideas?

I have guards instead of a cage in my car. Mine's a hatchback, though with the seats folded down so similar 'boot' space to an estate. They do make guards for estates too (infact, I was accidentally sent the one for the estate version first time around!)

This is the tailgate guard, which is what you're after

I also have an interior guard to stop the dogs reaching into the front, and more importantly, being flung into the driver/passenger or through teh windscreen in an accident

Mine were from a company called MMG. The guards are fine, I wasn't so impressed with the customer service as I had a few issues. There are quite a few companies that make them - Barjo, Travall, Guardsman to save a few. May be worth checking out eBay, Gumtree etc. for second hand - also try Agilitynet's "fleamarket" (all dog-related products) as well as Facebook dog equipment sale groups.

Mine fit into fittings drilled into the car, so you can remove the guards if needed.

You can find some that are pressure mounted, though generally most screw into cars nowadays to be more secure in the event of a crash.

Also, check out Barjo's discounted product page - they sell used and discontinued lines a bit cheaper, but only have selected models

You can either have them fitted, or fit them yourself. MMG aren't local to me, so they sent the guards by courier and I (well, I got family to help) fitted them. But if you use a local company, you can have them fitted - I could have driven to Barjo but they were slightly more expensive for what I wanted.

I wasn't fussed about making holes in the car, as I intend to keep it until it goes to the scrapyard in the sky, but do consider that it may affect the resale value of the car. If you're worried, a pressure mounted guard may be better - but as said, they're not so easily available, and probably cost a bit more too. However, they will be far sturdier than your bog standard, generic guard from the likes of Halfords and so on.

Have a look at agility net - go to the Fleamarket section (from the top menus) and scroll down to the dog guards etc. http://www.agilitynet.com/

Could I use 2 normal crates side by side longways on? Seems to be a cheaper option
