Moving hot water cylinder

I've just purchased an 18year old house. At the moment the airing cupboard is in one of the bedrooms but as it's taking up space.....
1) Is it possible to move the cylinder into the attic?
2) If this is possible how much would it cost?
I'll be grateful for any advice.

Hi
1) Yes you can ,if you raise the cold tank so that it is above the hot cylinder.
4"x2" timber frame and 18mm ply base .
2) More information needed.(If you can't do the above then no point.)
Some might be worried about hot water above their bed.

Have you thought about putting in a combi boiler?
Does away with the need for a hot water tank.We all evolve - get on with it0 -
You can get fortic cylinders that have a water resevoir built in above the HW part of the cylinder. These tend to be fine for the average 3 bed semi, and they take up less space as there is no need for a separate tank.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0

Hi money savers,
im new here, looking at moving my h/w cylinder to the atic also, and found this site on a google search,
i also have a wetback included, wood like to do away with it as im moving the fire and id rather fit more wood and more fire in there, does any one no if i can just run a short pipe instead of the long one that goes thru the fire, then bolt big thick washers up on the holes in the fire, like on the other side.
also wanting to know if its possible to regulate the mains pressure strait into the h/w cylinder, so that it only has the same pressure as if the cold tank was above, without having to move the cold tank or even use it.
all thorts welcom, thanks0 -

What does this mean? you have a wood fire? you are getting a wet back?, you want to apply mains pressure to your hot water cylinder? then something about washers?0 -
hi, sorry if it didnt make sence,
i have a wood fire, with wetback,
i want to dissconect the wetback,
is this as simple as a much shorter water pipe going strait back to cylinder instead of thru the fire?
move the hot water cylinder to atic,
yes id like to hook up the mains, more so that i dont have to bother haveing a cold tank, but if my low pressure h/w clyinder can handel a bit more than the gravity pressure it wood b great,
dont worry about the washers
cheers0 -
Can't comment about the wood fire as I am not qualified on solid fuel heating systems, but under no circumstances direct mains pressure water to your hot water cylinder.
Since you would be discarding your cold water cistern and presumably your open vent, the only poossible outcome would be that the HWS would explode - in a very short period of time - literally minutes.0 -
thanks, i knew there was a risk of explosion sum where with these things but wasnt sure how it could be caused, will be sure nt to do that,
cheers0
