Hello all,
hoping you cans hare you opinions for me. My partner and I are first time buyers currently arranging our mortgage through a broker. He has recommended we investigate getting cover for the mortgage and given several options as examples.
Life cover - £11.50 per month to cover the remaining mortgage amount
Life cover + Critical illness- £43 per month to cover remaining mortgage amount.
Mortgage amount is about £190k with 25 years. My partner and I are 25/26 non-smokers in (current) good health. We both have death in service benefit at our current employers.
What do people think? Is it worthwhile?

How much life cover do you each have via work (DISB?)?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and should not be seen as financial advice.0 -
About £120k each
Most advisers would not count your DIS benefits in any calculations as its
You may change jobs
Your employer may lower or remove benefits
Therefore it is sensible to have your own cover in place independent of your employment.I am a Financial Adviser specialising in Mortgages, Protection, Health and Medical Insurance. I also write wills. All information posted on this site is for discussion only, and should not be taken as advice.0 -

Did the broker quote for £70k life cover each to make up for the shortfall? Make sure you have enough to cover the full mortgage and if you require any income each if either partner was to pass away... make sure you have enough cover for that too.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I do agree with this, however the question is whether the premiums offer a good value for money on the cover given the low chance of needing to claim.
Would another form of cover be more suitable instead such as income protection?0 -

Those quotes are for full amount cover if either of us have critical illness/death. Ie: £190k0 -

Income protection is completely different to life cover. Life cover will protect you if you die - income protection will protect you if you cannot work.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Do you have any children that would need to be covered in the event of both of your deaths?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and should not be seen as financial advice.0 -
Nope. none yet anyway..
Okay, and is the cover that the broker found a level term? (i.e. the sum assured doesn't decrease each month/year).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and should not be seen as financial advice.0
