PILON and unemployment insurance

I've just spoken to the underwriters of the unemployment cover for my mortgage and I've been told that I cannot claim until the notice period covered by my PILON has ended. Is this normal? I can find no mention of this in the policy and my employment was officially terminated last week.

To claim mine I had to be in receipt of JSA, which I was told I couldn't claim until my PILON had ended.
  • Many years ago it used to be the case that Unemployment Benefit (as it then was) was not paid during PILON periods. However I thought that had ceased to happen but has been resurrected. OP - who told you, the Jobcentre?
  • The insurance underwriters told me that I couldn't claim from them until it ends despite it not being in the policy anywhere.
I've not talked to the Jobcentre yet but some research indicated that I could sign on whilst in PILON period but wouldn't receive any benefit.
