There probably will be an urgent need for HGV drivers next year, based on the number of drivers that have stated they are not doing the DCPC under any circumstances and would rather stack shelves in a supermarket than give in to the Govt.0

In the US states that have harsher job seeking conditionality and a fixed period to claim unemployment benefits, for example, they brought this in because in pre-recession times, they found despite huge increases in employment opportunity, the number of unemployed kept rising and benefit dependency increasing.
So they have a policy there of any job is a good job, of refusing to train or educate the unemployed, expecting them to seek unskilled work if they have no skills. They have a far stricter policy of workfare there - full time supervised job searches or full time work placements.
The policy makers there cite academic studies that show that training courses for the unemployed do little to boost their income. For them, the key to securing work is to get a job, any job, not get training/education which they see as the responsibility of the individual to invest in, therefore they expect their job seekers to have aspirations that match their skills, education, experience and apply for minimum wage jobs as the norm.
I expect this is why the UK government offers little in the way of anything other than the most basic of courses - sticking someone in Poundland for a month is a much clearer way of showing a potential employer than someone is work ready than sending them on an office based retail/customer service course.
Apologies for going slightly off topic but as we all know, the last thing that the Job Centre actually does is care about training someone up to do a job that they desire, they can barely find any kind of decent work for anyone. They are not a careers service, they are just there to get applicants off Job Seekers anyway they can at least cost to the public purse.0 -

They said that when they got log books.
They said that when they got tachographs

No.
(The FTA has unsuccessfully asked the Government to pay for this training, saying there will otherwise be a shortage of LGV drivers. But their idea of a shortage is probably a queue of unemployed drivers not long enough for the agencies to keep wages down)“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0 -
I would like to know how long since you last drove?
Why leave it until you have no money before expecting other to pay?
Why have you not put the money aside if you have been working or if you havent why not get a job then save and pay for it yourself?
My hubby is a driver and whilst his employer paid some we had to pay the rest.0
