Could be worst my mum lives in Inverness which is mainland UK. Often when she is ordering something she has to pay more because the option is listed as Highlands and Islands

Do you realise that you always pay for delivery from web sites?

It's either a separate charge or the prices are all set higher to include a an amount to pay for p&p.

    This is not true.

You appear to be under the assumption that the most important factor in product pricing on mail order sites is the cost of delivery.

That is wrong and shows a complete lack of Business understanding
    This is not true.

The lack of basic understanding of business accounting and even simple algebra here is quite disturbing.

The costs of delivery have to be paid for.

No business owner is going to pay for them as an act of charity.

Hence the money must come from the customers.

Hence it is included in the cost of the goods the business sells.

If those costs were removed (by making an explicit charge) that would lower the overall costs of the business which would mean that the goods could be sold more cheaply.

You can throw in all manner of things to muddy the waters but nothing will alter the fact that delivery has to be paid for and if it isn't an explicit charge it will be factored across all the prices charged. Obviously not necessarily evenly or pro rata.

This is all very basic business economics that should be clear to anyone of any intelligence.
  • But to counter your point, I use 3 or 4 clothing websites for stuff because some get special releases that the others dont. The general trainers they sell are all the same price.

2 dont charge for postage and 2 do.

So, why do the ones who do not charge for postage charge a higher label price?

You can answer at any time. Ill be here or here abouts.

Really you could have worked this out for yourself because it is breathtakingly obvious.

Just as an exercise, ask yourself why it is that some sites are cheaper than others EVEN IF THE HAVE THEY SAME DELIVERY CHARGES (or lack of them).

Then apply the answer to that question to the question you ask above and you will have your answer.

And you will hopefully have learned a deductive technique that you can apply to other problems. :)

Just who do the people who think that delivery costs are not added to the cost of goods on the site think are paying these costs?

    Serious question.

And if the price is the same as a high street retailer that does not have an online presence?

Do you think using capitals makes you a bit clever too?

    Too true.

It's hard to believe that it's possible to find people who will argue that the customer does not have to pay for delivery charges one way or another.

And yet on this forum, it's easy. rolleyes.gif

  • And yet the answer to my question has still not been answered. Funny that.

IUn fact the same goes for my record buying too - prices online are no different to the shops yet some online sites charge for delivery and some dont.

So where is the price being factored into the delivery if the high street store sells at the same price?
