Being Forced to Relocate Unwillingly

Also I cannot believe that public transport is so bad that it takes 1hr 20 to get between two towns that are 15 miles away, unless it is over the pennines or something like that.
It takes her 15minutes to get from home into her current town of work, so that is still over an hour commute between the two towns. Really?0 -
First of all, you have to talk with your company head about your problem. It depends on your company, its laws & policies either they will relocate you or not.0

I can believe it. It would take me that long to get to one particular town that far away because the buses are indirect and go all round the houses and the connections don't match. At night it used to take me over 2 hours, longer if one of the buses failed to turn up.
Having said that, I did it because it was the only job I could get.
OP, what result is your wife hoping for? If there's any possibility she can stay where she is (if others aren't being relocated) it might be worth trying to fight it. Personally I wouldn't be going for redundancy unless I knew I had a job in a town I was happy to travel to. Because your wife could potentially end up a lot worse off travel wise if she's. not careful. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I'm surprised there appears to have been no consultation carried out between the council and employees, with plenty of time for staff to consider all their options and make an informed decision about their future..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Been there, done that, took the severance package. Lots of my colleagues got scattered to the 4 winds though moving from jobs in Cambridge to St. Neots, Peterborough, Stansted, Norwich etc. You may not like what is coming but it is necessary and it is inevitable. Only you can work out what your response to the changes is going to be. Trying to challenge it is just a waste of public funds. That said, the way these things are done leaves a heck of a lot to be desired.Life is like a box of chocolates - drop it and the soft centres splash everywhere0

My wife has now asked for a formal appeal at work against the relocation. She would like me to accompany her to help argue her case but the employer says this is not allowed. She has to choose between a fellow employee or a trade union rep.
Is this true?0 -

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what the policy documents you posted earlier mentioned. Not sure what you mean by "true" here? It's their internal process so they get to design it. There's nothing inherently unreasonable or unusual about it if that's what you're asking. If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
What sort of arguments do you think you could bring that the OH can't do for themselves?0

Yes, it is.0
