    I can see both sides too, but I just know that if we can get the debt paid off really quickly then we can save the money back up & it's as though we've only borrowed it for a couple of years like you said.

    Once the debts paid off we'll have £1000 per month to save up with, which will add up really quickly, and we'll have enough in our monthly budget to make this possible too & not feel like we're skint all the time, it's difficult because I know that it's my inheritance money too but it's my hubby's decision at the end of the day!

    Our plan for the future is to extend the house as we're a growing family who will need more room eventually, so this will enable us to do it rather than borrowing it on the mortgage :j

    Doe your OH have other plans for the money? Does he feel the need for a 'safety buffer' that you can save for emergencies?

    Perhaps you could split the difference - pay off one card and save the rest for emergencies?
