Problem with AVG anti viral software

Options
Hi,

I keep having problems with AVG anti viral software. Every time I log off and then log onto my computer again a small window appears saying..

avgcc.exe application error
The application failed to initialise properly.

Then it asks me to terminate the application.

I can download the softward fine and it scans ok but this happens every time I log out and then log in again.

Its a new computer, I just bought it a few weeks ago and its Windows Vista. It initially came with a Norton security package already installed but I wanted AVG instead so I installed that but I didnt realise that you couldnt have the two running on the computer at the same time so I uninstalled Norton but it hasnt made any difference.

Does anyone have any ideas as to whats wrong?

Thanks.

Similar problem here, but yet unsolved. You can try the suggestions mentioned - it may work for you. G
  • Hi,

you may still have a bit of Norton lurking about somewhere, do a search for Norton and Symantec, and remove anything that you find.

You can also try the Norton Removal Tool.
  • Thanks for the suggestion frugalmacdugal. I did a search for Norton and Symantec but the only thing I could find is Symantec listed as a Program File which I deleted. I could find no Norton/Symantec Programs that I can uninstall. I ran the Norton Removal Tool but unfortunately it didnt made any difference. However when I went into my security center I found that alongside Windows, Norton is still in there as part of my computer security!!! Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get rid of it? Obviously this is what is preventing the AVG programme from working properly.

    Thanks

You could try installing Norton again.

Once installed, the removal tool may have more luck in getting rid of the remnants from last time.
