Thanks for that, I've seen a few of these calculators so I'll take time to see what output they come with.

We have a single panel 1600mm radiator, would replacing it with a double panel 800mm one be just as effective?

That homesupply calculator gives some quite low BTU outputs on the ones I tested it with.

Yes, I think they're worth it, but you're looking in the wrong places at that price.

    Try here:

Cheap those, but are they any good?

Yep our cold Victorian bathroom was transformed by putting a double panel to replace a single of the same dimensions. I can't believe it took us 8 years to get around to doing it!
  • As an alternative to Mr Central Heating, I can highly recommend Best Heating. Very similar prices, and I bought a couple of convector radiators from here when we had a new kitchen put in and they are really good!

Most local plumbing supplies can beat prices like the OPs quoted.
  • Got double panel/double convector rads in my place and they work very well. No sign of distress from combi.

Brings the rooms to temp pronto, then the TRVs maintain. Simples.

 A lot of misinformation in replies here

Radiators for individual rooms need to be sized in accordance with the requirements of that particular room ;)

Doubling the size, by replacing single with double panels, will double the heat input into the room, that is not efficient
There are several types of radiator also, each has a given output according to size and type, and each has to be determined in accordance with the room requirements :(

http://www.homesupply.co.uk/radiator_output_calculator.php is required 1ST, and then http://www.myson.co.uk/PremHE-Imperial_tech_-_0413.pdf to find a size of radiator to match the output required for the room ;)

This is just an example, there are many different calculators and radiator manufacturers and models available on the net :)
The easy way is to oversize by 25% - 30% and fit a good TRV to trim output to requirements
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'
