Think the OP is confused Public Libraries have never relied on donated books .
All new books are disease free i certainly don't want to borrow books that are full of snot etc .
Been using libraries since i was six years old and in the main find that the state of the library and its content is dependant upon individual councils .Less busy yes as books are a lot easier to purchase nowadays and available at much cheaper prices than of days gone buy.

(Did you know, the 20,000 leagues under the sea is a monumental mistake? If you did go down 20,000 leagues you would end up somewhere a third of the way to the moon, give or take a thousand kilometres)
D'oh. If you read it, you would know that this was a reference to the length of the voyage, not the depth.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

But 20,000 Leagues is roughly 60,000 miles. The Earth's circumference is only 25,000 miles. :)

    The Neil Gaiman speech:

Well worth a read & then seeing what hours your local library is open!

Homework: Explain how a 1600m race can be run on an Olympic running track, given that the track is no more than 400m in length.
