Royal Mail CRB Checks

Evening all,

Have a interview next week with royal mail for postman job , which is great as I've been unemployed for 18mths .

Now when i was 14/15 got into trouble with police (nothing major ,although my parents would disagree) , shoplifting and brought a stolen bike . Very dumb i know but quickly learnt errors of my ways.

Now looking on the Application form it says that if i pass interview stage , royal mail will do a check on me.

Checked the application form and doesn't say anything about spent convictions , only shows unspent convictions .

Now in my mind at the interview i should tell them about this but only if I'm asked , being over 30 years ago i can't see how this could affect me but a voice in the back of my mind says that the CRB check will show these up.

If i disclose/ don't disclose this , is my application dead in the water .?

Haven't thought about this for 25 odd years and now I'm worried sick that my Juvenile stupidity has come back to bit me on the !!!.

Any help/advice would be great

This thread should give you some answers - just don't be tempted to be as foolish as the OP in that thread.
  • Royal mail carry out basic disclosure check for unspent criminal conviction/s on employees. This does not apply to you as your conviction is now spent. Moreover; your conviction will be filtered under recent changes if they were asking for a standard/enhanced DBS check.

    Good luck.

    :D
  • Thanks for that. Takes a great weight of my mind...

I am fairly sure your criminal record will be cleared after your 18th birthday? I did some things in my childhood that resulted in a criminal record, applied for a job and got an enhanced CRB for that job, passed the CRB.
  • From what ive read online your record stays with you till your 100 .

Hopefully ill get this job now....

    Thanks for all the help

It will be on there, but not on a basic check.

A basic/standard will check any unspent convictions or convictions you got after 18 years old.

An enhanced CRB check will list "Unspent Convictions" and "Spent Convictions" in 2 separate sections.

What a load of nonsense, where do you get your info from?

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks (previously CRB checks)
  • Ummmmm now I'm lost.
Will the spent ones show up on this check ?
The link you just sent , shows that it will but this one http://www.disclosurescotland.co.uk/what-is-disclosure/

Says that the basic one wouldn't show them.

Ive gone from worrying myself sick about it to , being happy , now i back to worrying sick about it lol.

Don't worry about it. Even if it does appear it's a silly juvenile thing and they'll ignore it. Not everyone is perfect.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

    Yes they will.

I had a std check done earlier this year and all my spent evil deeds are on it in chronological order. Ahhhhhhh, the memories :D (30+ yrs ago)

edit: I notice your link was for Scotland - maybe it's different up there.
