Becoming a mortgage advisor with a bad credit history?

Hi all,
I know you can't do this job with a ccj on your file- but I have a default almost 5 years back that was then partially settled, but the default can't be removed according to Lloyd's because the full amount wasn't payed.
Can I become a mortgage advisor or ifa with this or am I stuffed?

I'm soo bored in my current job it's unreal, and the pay is rubbish!

There are ex bankrupts who are advisors.

You would need to find a practice or network that would take you on. You also might find the lloyds group (Halifax, BM solutions etc) not prepared to let you submit business to them - but this is something you would need to speak to the network and/or lloyds about.

  • Would that problem go away after 6 years had passed from the default?

Yes because it'll have fallen off you credit record after its 6th anniversary of registration.

    Hope this helps

I couldn't be whole of market then if Lloyd's etc wouldn't deal with me? I only want to be whole of market really. =:(

Feels so unfair that life could have been made so hard for me because my old boss couldn't look after his finances. He kept paying me only half my wages or less and promised to pay the shortfall as soon as a big job completed, at the time I was getting married and car packed in so bought a new one on CC, came home off honeymoon and the boss denied owing me anything. I got a new job, then a week later a old guy wrote off my new car- which was 3rd party insured.
Police took me to court for 'driving without due care and attention' because the crash was so bizarre- I had to go to court before I found the old chap who hit me was on oxygen IN THE CAR! And had just come from hospital- he was terminally ill, and died shortly after the crash. His wife wanted to claim manslaughter against me if she won the negligence case.
Well I won that hands down, and managed the whole case between my wife and me, inc a shed load of evidence and a stunning performance by myself under cross examination. The solicitor who I hired was totally useless, and didn't even know the case when I turned up on the day- magistrates told him off and set another date- so I did it myself!
My pairents were slowly withdrawing from me due to my wanting to not be in there religion and because the basically thought I made them look bad
at this point suffering from stress due to the whole situation, so the new employer felt I wasn't meeting 'targets' and fired me.
Didn't default, as I was on interest free period- but was so poor I was questioning my reason to live.
Couldn't shift debts to new card due to late payments and lower paying job- interest jumped to 34%.
Went into Iva under a company called 'advance money management' who negotiated 0% interest- or so I thought!
They actually just sent a lower monthly amount to each creditor and charged 10% 'commission' themselves. Although I payed them on time, they payed all the creditors late and failed to reach a payment amount agreement with Lloyd's and mbna (unbeknown to me)
I came into some money in 2009 and much more together as a person this Time, I contacted all the creditors and offered them a partial settlement in return for my credit file reading 'ps' and no default.
They all agreed, but I hadn't noticed that Lloyd's had agreed to update my file the read 'ps' but made no mention of no default - which they placed 6 months before the 'ps' the account closes with. Lloyd's refuse to change it.

Really not the story of someone who takes unacceptable risks with money, no?

I havnt read all of that as the reason behind it is unlikely to make much difference.

I never said Lloyds group will not deal with you, i said check as they MAY not.
