Wow! I’ve just been looking for replacement ink cartridges for my EpsonSX525WD printer.
It’s quite amazing the difference in prices ranging between £13.90 to £45.00 for the complete set T1291 (black) T1292/3/4 (cyan/magenta/yellow).
As this is my first look for replacements I can only assume that the cheaper cartridges are not Epson recommend but I wonder if they work just as well. Has anyone had experience of these cheaper inks and do they register with the printer as they should, i.e. showing the level of ink as its running out?
Also for some reason, it appears that I can choose to have either ‘Apple’ ink i.e. the ones shown above T1291 to T1294 which have an additional identification of the letter ‘L’ or ‘Stag’ ink i.e. T1301 to T1304 with the additional identification of letters ‘XL’. Does anyone know the difference please?

Apple and Stag refer to the picture on the Epson packaging.
L and XL refer to the size of cartridge. Generally buying XL works out better value for money.
I use the compatible inks in my HP and don't have any problems (though some early ones didn't show ink level info).
I've had good experiences with 7dayshop ... give them a go!0 -
I use inks from these at £7.39 for 2 Sets + 2 Black and have never had any issues

The L and XL are different sizes. The L has 11.2ml of ink, the XL has 25.4ml (on the black inks).0

I assume that the cartridges are all the same size though??? By this I mean that they will fit in the same slots.Trying to learn something new every day.0 -
My Epson Stylus SX438W can take both these sets
T1281 (black) T1282/3/4 (cyan/magenta/yellow). full set T1285
T1291 (black) T1292/3/4 (cyan/magenta/yellow). full set T1295
but works better with the T1281 set0 -
Thanks Guys.
I knew I could rely on the Techie site to answer the dilemma.
I still have some ink left in the existing cartridges that came with the machine, but as I don’t use it very often, probably less than a few times each month, I can afford to wait awhile before trying out some of your suggestions. ‘Be prepared’ as I was always told when in the scouts.
Thanks once again Techie Stuff site.

Save yourself even more and get a continuous ink system: http://www.cityinkexpress.co.uk/ciss/epson/sx525wd/sx-series
The kit is £60 (including ink) and, according to the blurb, is equivalent to 34 of each Epson cartridge (or about 10 each of the XL cartridges). Even the compatibles can't come close to thatSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -

I have used this on my Canon printer for over a year - still on original ink. Absolutely brilliant :T:T:T0 -
My dad likes to print lots of picture so I got him a CIS system and he is as happy as Larry. Every time I go round he has another load of pictures and still tons of ink left, definitely the way to go.Nothing to see here, move along.0
