FlyLady 'shiny sink' question

Hi
I tried to follow FlyLady last year but lost it... I now want to get back to it properly to get my house tidy and clean. Anyway, I've shined my sink tonight and it looks great
I know I don't have to do it all (bleach, cream cleaner, window cleaner) everynight, but I don need to shine it every night - don't I?
If so, what exactly do I need to do to the sink before going to bed?
BTW - I know exactly where I went wrong last time - I tried to do too much too soon. Baby steps this time. Oh and the neverending e-mail annoyed me!
TIA

Hi Lowri
All I do to mine is give it a good wipe over with that day's dish cloth and then shine it off with the tea towel... then I throw them in the wash and put the clean ones out on the draining board, ready for the next day. Sometimes I chuck a squirt of bleach down the plug hole and the overflow, but not always. That tiny, weeny routine keeps it lovely and clean.

Shining sink I see as an encouragement to make sure it's empty before bedtime, therefore no washing up left for the next day. Doesn't have to be gleaming. Mines the same usually just swished then dried off with tea towel. If it needs a good clean I use a little bicarb on a damp cloth. One day I might be more organised...........

Just for info - for those of you who struggle with the number of emails from flylady (as I think a lot of people do) she has changed the set up.
The reminders - several daily - are now sent to a separate mailing list so you need to subscribe to that mailing list if you want the reminders.
As a normal subscriber you will just get the missions etc.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I get the daily digest from her as I like the testimonials and missions, and I also get the reminders from UKFlylady so that they arrive at appropriate times.

I tried the UK list last year and I was getting the reminders at really weird times from them too. I cancelled as I couldnt see the point of getting 2 lots of reminders at silly times!
off check them out again now though. thanks

Hi LowRob
The reason you are told to "shine your sink" is to make sure the kitchen is clear before you come down in the morning. That way you can get started with a clean slate, rather than having to clear yesterday's debris. I know I always feel better when I come down and that area is clear, and if I come down to last night's mess then it's a bit of a downer IYSWIM.
So don't get too hung up on the word *shine*. She just means clear it and clean it.
Hope that helps0 -
Has anyone seen her new video with the song on Jumpcut about shiny sinks - I love it! I have quite a new stainless steel sink though and can't seem to get it lovely and sparkling! Grrrrr.CCCS DMP:Feb 07

I thought she gave you detailed instructions on how to clean your sink on her website. But how I do mine is spinkle bi-carb around and spray vinegar. It foams up a little bit and then I go over it with a damp cloth, rinse and buff up with a dry microfibre cloth. Comes up lovely and shiny.Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.

I used to get fed up with the emails but bought her book - SINK REFLECTIONS (amazon) - it is much better and is my bible!!
I empty my dishwasher as soon as I get up in the morning and from then on all the family know they are not allowed to put anything in the sink for the rest of the day - anything they use goes straight in the dishwasher to keep Mum's sink shiny & empty. As a result the kitchen always looks tidy (just need to do the same with the rest of the house, lol:rotfl: ). Then when I go to bed I just switch the dishwasher on on the way past! Took about 2 weeks to get everyone to establish this as a habit - had to put tape across the sink at one point:rotfl:Start by doing what's necessary, then what's possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible.0
