Quick car insurance renewal question

Hi all,
I'm sorry if this is silly, but if I don't want to renew my car insurance do I have to tell my current insurer? I've just insured with a different company, but my bank ballance wouldn't cope if my current insurer "renewed it for me" so to speak, particularly not at the premium they are quoting!

Thanks in advance

Rob.

    Yes, you would do.

In all probability, you've given your permission for direct debits to continue. Give them a ring to be sure and tell them you dont want to renew.

It is worthwhile telling them, and maybe also putting it in writing. Some insurance contracts now are on a 12 month rolling basis and if you dont say you are insuring elsewhere they will take the money for the next 12 months automatically (this is mainly the case if you paid by credit/debit card).

If you have a dig round there are many posts from indignant people who have found this out the hard way.

Always do things in writing. Otherwise someone at the company will "forget" to put it on the system.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

If its a Direct Debit make sure you cancel it with your bank as well.
