I cannot update using Windows Store

I am running Windows 8, professional I think. I bought this when it first came out and took out the offer on the microsoft website to dl the software for around £25. Then put in the activation key and away I went.

Today when booting up I received a message informing me I can update to Windows 8.1 from the Windows store. I can see the store app and there is a number 14 on the little square so im guessing there are 14 updates to choose from

When I click the store app on the desktop it just goes very large to fill the screen then goes off. Each time I try I cannot get it to open up.

So I cannot update my Windows 8 to 8.1

Anyone help with this please. BTW I use a mouse not a touch screen pen or anything

You could try applying all available Windows 8 updates first - I had an issue and doing that allowed me to proceed.

Ive been to the windows update and updated somethings, but why cannot I access the app?

Well, I couldn't see the 8.1 upgrade in the app store.
Then I did a Windows Update, via the control panel off the pull in from the right charm thing on the Windows desktop.
Then I checked the store and the 8.1 update was there.

You might be able to get there by pasting this into the address bar of your browser and pressing Enter:

ms-windows-store:WindowsUpgrade

However if the Windows Store itself is broken it may not work; probably worth a shot though.

Never be in a rush to get the latest updates. Had to fix many computers in the past because the updates killed them.

Computers failing to reboot after the update.

Wait until a few weeks have passed.
