Free parking time is (usually) defined in the planning consent.

Well a week after my visit to the Store ParkingEye had not cancelled my charge but had in fact inflated it to £85.00. Following another visit to the Store the charge has been cancelled and is not showing online although I am yet to receive the confirmation in writing.

I would urge anyone who is told by a Store that they will cancel the charge to keep checking that ParkingEye have cancelled it and not take it as a given that it will be done.

Thank you to all who have offered advice and taken the time to respond to my thread, it is very much appreciated.

Its a pity their customer services are not as decent as this manager seems to have been.

They seem to forget that they will have a genuine customer clause in any contract they have with PE, but seem very reluctant to use it.
