Upgrading Mac Mini + Laptop hardisk

Options
Has anyone around these parts upgraded their Mac mini?

I have:

Laptop with 2.5" 80gb 4200rpm drive
G4 Mac Mini with 2.5" 80gb 5400rpm drive
and I have just got a new 2.5" 100gb 7200rpm drive due to that google checkout promo last week.

I want to crack open the Mac mini and remove the 5400rpm drive, and replace it with the 7200rpm drive. I then want to remove the laptop disk and put the mac drive in there.

Is this do-able without destroying my mac in the process?

you might want to look at the 'mac mods' forums over at somewhere like macrumors or appleinsider. I'm not sure it can be done however. It'll be messy and tbh not really worth it for another 20gb unless you're struggling for space. better to attach a LaCie Mac Mini hard drive (more expensive i know)

  • As said for the mac mini look at the forums.

For the laptop it all depends on the laptop, it could be as easy as undoing a screw or two and pulling the drive out or as difficult as taking the whole laptop to bits.
