Has anyone managed to get old defaults removed?

Not surprised with mobile phone account either, as they frequently seem to tell people that an account is settled only to later add on something extra. Sometimes without writing at all. Sometimes after someone has moved so they only find out years later. Been lots of examples on here, so it's not often a case of people not paying a debt they knew about; instead a case of never knowing there was a debt or that the debt was incorrectly added or administered by the phone company.Still rolling rolling rolling......

I agree, although mine was a 'real' default, some of the circumstances made it easier to have it removed such as it being paid off, it being a small amount and the fact it was a mix up with them charging me after my contract had terminated.
But the original question was 'Has anyone managed to get old Defaults removed' and my example is proof that 'YES' it is physically possible...
Wether its likely to get a bank related Default removed form your file is another issue...
They 'can' remove the Default, but they might not if they don't want to...
I would suggest to anyone with Defaults to at least try and harass the lender for a short while to see if they will remove it.
If the Default is unsettled then forget about it...
Plead to them about how detrimental the Default is to your current credit applications etc... and if you paid it off, they might just give a gesture of good will.
Don't hold your breath.. but worth a shot!0 -
Thanks for all the advice everyone - I've arranged a meeting with a local broker. If the rates are a lot higher than what I could get without the defaults I think we are just going to wait two more years until they fall off before getting a mortgage.
That'll give us time to save an even higher deposit anywayA bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove that you don't need it. :mad:0
