What are you hoarding?

"I have a people-trafficking business which is going very nice thank you very muchvery much, but I have a guilty secret which is having 10 tins of peaches in the larder I hope the police do not catch me with all that spare capacity in the larder department".
If you have the space, what is the problem with putting things away in case you need them? If you are trying to corner the market in something to drive the price up then perhaps you might want to feel guilty, but having three pairs of scissors?
Perhaps the OP could change the title to "what are you stockpiling for winter?"0 -

See my first post, I mention hoarding for winter but I mention other things as well that people hoard at all times of the year.0 -

I suppose my point is why are people feeling guilty about having three pairs of scissors or having a larder full of tins of food. Or more importantly why are they letting others make them feel guilty about it.
Storing things, collecting things or just putting things away for a rainy day could be done for a very good reason and not because they have a personality disorder or mental illness which seems to be the messages that blare out of the TV these days and, if I may say so this forum sometimes.
Even if they did collect, store, etc for no apparent good reason at all, would that still be a crime against humanity?0 -
Today I am hoarding.............
Homemade half cooked roastie potatoes to put in the freezer as emergency stuff for bad weather....or grotty weather and can't be arzed to go to shops for groceries.
For the purpose of this thread a better term may..."squirrelling away for the winter".....but it's still a mini-hoard I guess...or a temporary-hoard.
Real hoarders could give you a list as big as the yellow pages....for instance I probably have around 1000 buttons...never used them...in fact just come across them again today.
It's the 'being prepared'....stepping over into......'everything will have a use some day'.....then it can get what some call ridiculous and others find overwhelming to sort out. I doesn't help when you like 'looking at things' or as others have said 'feeling' them.
There are serious hoarding threads you can have a read of, the current one is 'hoarding springing ahead'....and I think this is the 3rd one. they are started by Jo Jo the Tightfisted if you want to look them up.
It isn't a crime, and lots manage to do this with no major problem and it's just an irritation in their life, but for some it does become a problem (as seen on tv etc). Th guilt will be for various different reasons to the individual, but I will say have a friend who is bad with it...her guilt is that she won't let anyone in the house most of the time, so it makes her feel bad about herself.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
I too like to keep things 'just in case'. I probably have about 20 tins of baked beans, 10 tins of spaghetti, 8 tins of chopped tomatoes, various tobacco tins filled with buttons, goodness only know how many pairs of scissors (mine seem to vanish!) and enough food in the freezer that I don't need to buy anything for a month of so.
My DH & DD's often ask me for 'odd' items, Mum, do we have......... And I can honestly say, hand on heart 98% of the time I DO have it!0 -

I seem to buy rather too much food sometimes.
But if it's non-perishable then I *will* use it.
Apart from that, I have quite a decent stock of eBay packing materials (mainly bubble wrap and Jiffy bags) in the shed, and also lots of fabric, buttons etc.Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

I de-cluttered a huge stash of knitting wool a few years ago and I am sorry to say I am hoarding even more now in storage boxes in the loft. I also hoard knitting patterns, knitting needles and various other bits of haberdashery relating to my knitting hobby.
On the food/household front I have a goodly supply of kitchen, toilet roll, baked beans, washing powder, fabric conditioner and coffee. Size of hoard depends upon when I visit Costco!0
