What are you hoarding?

Since it is autumn I thought that this might be an appropriate thread for this time of year.
What do you put past for use at sometime in the future.
I will start you by giving you some of the things that I hoard.
1. Logs that I was given a few years ago which I cut up and use in the fire when visitors come.
2. Leaves form the trees for compost.
3. Old large tin cans for use as kettles for painting
4. Various parts from dismantled domestic appliances for use in future DIY projects.
5. Cans of food in case I am snowed in.
6. Old newspapers for lighting fire and rolling up for use as fuel.

For this time of year....
FOOD, in case I get snowed in or just can't be bothered to venture out to the shops. As the weather gets worse I will stock up on some wine or drinks I fancy for December. Already stocked up on emergency cat food/litter and things for the car (screen wash/de-icer etc). I will also hoard some cash so that I don't have to go to ATM's when off work (this is as I always used to lose my bank card at some time in December rushing around.)Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
I think your deifnitiopn of haording is a bit astray....of your list, I'd only define 3 and 4 as hoarding since the rest are going to be used and common sense.
It's only hoarding if you're never going to use it.
You're just stocking up.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
I hoard wool and children.

at the moment i'm in the process of moving out of my parents house with my 4 year old daughter. we moved in with them when i split from her dad almost 3 years ago. so for the last year i've been 'hoarding' house stuff. it's in my bottom drawer, under my dressing table, in the garabe, on top of the wardrobe, under the bed. they'll be glad to get rid of it...and me. but i refuse to pay full whack for stuff when we move next month so when i see a bargain in Homesense, ebay, the supermarket etc i snap it up. i now have everything i need other than white goods a bed and a sofaLBM- 01/04/2014

After OH helped tidy the kitchen I have started to use my food hoard, in the last month we only buy about £20 of fresh goods. we still have 14 tins of baked beans, 8 tuna and numerous other tins left.
Has been handy to use things up.BSC member 137

I suppose hoarding has a negative connotation like when there is a scare that petrol will be going up in price and people rush to the petrol station with jerry cans, but when things are plentiful and cheap hoarding things away rather than consuming them immediately can save a lot of money and lets face it has been done since people first stored grain in earthenware pots for use in the winter. It has made some people's fortune as well.
I suppose there are lots of things that people wish they hoarded. I remember old bakelite phones were being dumped as everybody wanted a nice plastic one - I dumped one myself that belonged to my granny. These phones are now worth £200.0 -
Scissors oddly enough! I have loads. I think it's because when I was a kid there was only one rubbish pair. I have three pairs of plain dressmaking scissors, two pairs of pinking shears , a couple of small pairs, about three kitchen pairs and nail scissors.
I also hoard fabric, tweed , I know I'm probably not going to ever use, but just like to feel the quality off. I'm a bit bonkers maybe.
I also hoard watercolours letters, must have five now, you can only use one at a time!and it's always the same one.Norn Iron Club member 4730 -
Oh.....also,
Toilet roll (have 34 rolls in now for the winter!!)
Washing powder
Fabric conditioner
Shampoo etc
Anything essential in case I cabin myself in the house and don't want to go to the shops. I hope it isn't too bad this year, once i've cooked and watched tv for a whole day I tend to get a bit bored after a couple of days if snowed in.
Edit......Artytarty.....2 suitcases of fabric here....lolYep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
sch! just the two? You novice!!!
Food wise I don't really hoard at all actually, I just keep a steady eye on the pantry and replace as I go along. I must be a different kind of hoarder.Norn Iron Club member 4730 -
Papercraft stuff for making greeting cards and scrapbooks. Seriously, I've got a huge cupboard full of the stuff. I've banned myself for ages from buying any more until I've used at least some of it up. Stamps, accessories, ribbons, tapes, glues, pretty paper & card, flowers, stickers, feathers, you name, I've got it. I really must make some more cards0
