BMW Approved Used Car Questions

Hi all, I don't venture to this side of the board very often!

Im looking to buy a used bmw from bmw directly. Went to my local dealer and he said that If I find one online that I want, they can buy it from that dealership and bring it to my local dealership.

What is the benefit of this? Also at what point do I negotiate the price, through the local dealer or the dealer where the car is?

Also when it comes to the year warranty included, when I buy it from the further away dealership, do I need to take it to where it was bought from?

Any advise appreciated.

I take it you are searching for the car on the BMW AUC website.

I did that earlier this year and received notifications by text and email when cars with the spec I wanted were listed anywhere within the mileage I specified.

You will get always get a better deal travelling to the dealer who originally has the car - not your local guy.

All BMW dealers have video cameras and can send you a personalised video - by that I mean that they will go and film anything about the car you want to see and zoom in on it. I was particularly interested in whether there was chips on the front panels or wear on the leather seats.

I had no trade in and got a very good deal. look for at least £1000 off the price.

A BMW AUC can be repaired under the 12 months warranty anywhere in Europe. It can be extended as long as the mileage is under 100K when you renew it.

Beware of dealers offering you a cut-price service deal which must be carried out at their specific workshop. I took a 2 year service pack for £405 valid anywhere in Europe.

Check if there is a BMW service pack already on the car from a previous owner, because it is transferable to the next owner - but the rascal dealers won't tell you unless you ask.

I also took BMW Europe wide 3 year tyre insurance which was only £30 dearer than the dealers UK only insurance.

Everything works from the chassis/VIN number and scanning the key-fob.

Of course if you very rarely venture far from home and/or don't drive in Europe then the dealer's own options could well save you some cash.

    I wouldn't drive a BMW without warranty - I've had BMWs for the last 30 years and it's a no-brainer.

    1) Benefit is that if you are in Devon and the car is in Scotland you don't have travel to Scotland. That said if the journey were less extreme the current dealer might be willing to bring the car to you.

    2) You would need to negotiate a price with your local dealer, who would in turn need to negotiate with the currently-owning dealer. The price negotiation would have to involve a profit for both dealers, so expect to pay more than if you went direct to the currently-owning dealer (except maybe if this is some sort of dealership group).

    3) Warrantee isn't affected by which dealership you get work done at.

Having just done this on a MINI (read BMW) I found one I wanted but a deal could not be done as the dealer with the car could not give the dealer I was at enough off to make it worth while, my dealer would have made £40 by the time it was collected (380 mile round trip).
