Credit Checking Customers

Hi, I have a small business and I am starting out offering my customers credit options to buy our services. We have a finance company we are using but a number of the applicants so far have been rejected and it looks bad with the finance company that they have been. So what I would like to do is a pre check. See if the customer is likely to pass before we move on to finance. What I would like to know is

a, Do you know of any cost effective solutions for doing this
b, will it have a detrimental effect on our customers if we credit score/check them then the finance company does the same assuming we get a positive response and move them to finance

Are you customers consumers or other businesses?

If they are consumers then I do not think you will find a way of being able to credit check them.
