Help with what to write in letter Re buying a house

Hi folks
This is my first post so hoping someone can help.
I am in the process of selling my home and we are looking at buying in a specific area. The houses that come on the market are sold very quickly and we really don't want to get into a price war.
A little back story..... I have had my eye on a house for some time and have thought long about posting a letter to express my interest for some time now. Unfortunatley a few weeks ago the lady passed away and the family are going through probate.
My question is do i bite the bullet and write a letter and if so what do i say?? I don't want to be insensitive but feel that I need to make my position known.
We are a family with 2 children and the area is great for families. We have a mortgage in principle but have not yet sold our's. It would be a lovely family home and we are aware of the house as a friend lives in the same kind down the road.
I have read a few threads on here but none give advise on my specific situation. Any ideas or links would be much appreciated
Kind Regards Cath

When you say 'make my position known' do you mean 'tell the owner i like the house but am in no position to do anything about it'?
What outcome do you want this declaration to achieve?0 -
Just write expressing the fact that you're interested in buying a family home in the area. Although you will need to state that your house is on the market, but haven't yet found a buyer. You don't need to add anything else. If the executor's view you as a viable prospect they will contact you.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -

Hi
I was meaning to tell them that i have my house for sale but not yet sold and that i'm interested. The Estate gets a lot of estate agents leafletting so i was wanting them to know i'm a private buyer
Thank you for response0 -
How do you know the family is going through probate? The house might not have been left to a family member or the house might not have been owned by the deceased (signed over to a family member before death etc.).
Making a bid if and when the house comes up for sale is the only way of not risking being insensitive in my view.0 -
There's a fine line between being insensitive & being so interested in a house that you are prepared to take a risk.
A note saying that you've seen & admired the house, acknowledging that it must be the focal point for so many happy family memories & wondering if they would consider you as a possible buyer at some time in the future *may* be just this side of not-insensitive.
Best of luck, and remember there are other houses!0 -
I wouldn't target them specifically just send a flyer round several houses in the area saying if you are thinking of selling please give me a call.
That way it looks like a general thing and hopefully if they are interested they will get in touch.0 -

If i got a note through the door like this i would at least expect the person writing it to be in a position to buy my house.
In this case we have a house which may or may not go on the market at some point in the future, and an OP who may or may not sell their own house at some point in the future.
All sounds a bit premature to me.
And trust me i know about being premature. :rotfl::rotfl:
OP i suggest you focus all your efforts on shifting your house before getting caught up in a new one.0
