Lloyds asking "What is your net income?" when doing online banking

I was asked to supply said detail once when opening a savings account with either a bank or bldg Soc - this was several years ago possibly pre 2008.
So I put in £500 million

Lloyds like pre-authorizing customers for things - maybe that's why they want to know?
I don't know how intrusive they'd be with that info though - whether you'll just get a "guaranteed acceptance for xxxxxx" message on the internet banking screen or counter staff/call centres trying to sell you something.0 -

The computer allowed you to tell it that amount - it blatantly didn't actually accept that you earn that much. If it did you'd soon know about it!0
