Treasurers Account

HI,

I am the Secretary of my sons football team and I am looking for some advice.

We currently have a treasurers bank account in which my partner is the named person as well as the Club name being on the account. We operate under a larger club name but each team is responsible for managing its own funds i.e team fees, registration fees, fundraising. We are not liking the bigger club we are currently with as they are interfering in a lot of matters that they really don't need to. Our team runs smoothly, there are 3 parents a little behind on team fees but out of 20 players that's not that bad and given the current climate we are working with them to help them bring the fees back up to date, apart from this it runs very well and we have almost £3,000 in the teams account which we plan to use for new equipment, etc.

My question is who is responsible for the money, if we want to leave the large club and move to another organisation can we take the money with us without any repercussions?

Usually how the money belonging to the club is disposed of when the club ceases to exist is laid out in the constitution.

Also, it appears that you are the secretary and your partner is the treasurer. I cannot see anything wrong with it technically but you both would be very exposed if an error was made in the bookkeeping.
