Completion Advice Please

Hi Guys

Hope you can help me with some friendly advice.

We are in the middle of a chain of three, people buying our property are FTB, and the people who we are buying from are moving in to a house where the current tenant is moving in to rented accommodation.

Although nothing has ever been agreed between all of our solicitors, a date around the end of this month has been banded about between each other via our respective estate agents, just to get a feel for what was acceptable for everyone.

Originally the tenants at the top of the chain moving in to rented accommodation said they would move out at any time from beginning of June. Today we have found out that the earliest they can move out is on the end of July for various reasons.

As you can imagine my OH and I are becoming increasingly frustrated and we just want to move (I’m sure everybody gets to that point sometime in a house move!).

I was just hoping some of you knowledgeable people on here could give me some advice as to what could be done to move the completion date back to the end of June again, or am I fighting a lost cause.

I thought maybe the people who are moving to a rented property could stay in a hotel for a while or something along those lines?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated

Erm, have you really thought about this? If it were that simple, surely you could move into a hotel for a month? It's not right is it really? It would just be better to move when everyone is ready.

Wanting to be in your house as soon as possible isn't really the best reason to try and make someone else homeless.

Why don't you all try to exchange contracts as soon as possible to make the deals binding for the end of July? At least you will have security of knowing you are definately moving.

I had a buyer suggest I move into a hotel with my husband and two kids after I'd already had to move house once because of their buyers lying on their mortgage application. Fair enough it wasn't their fault but I can tell you that the fact that they weren't considering doing it with their own kids showed exactly how selfish people can be and it nearly broke the deal there and then. I was so angry!

    Thanks for the reply Doozergirl

I want trying to be selfish or unkind in anyway, and your probably right that i haven't thought about it hard enough. The whole process has just been dragging on and as you can imagine we would like to move ASAP.The hotel idea was me just clutching at straws, and a platform for any other members who had experienced this situation to share their views and experiences. I dont want to make anyone homeless.

Looks like its best to sit tight and wait another month then

    Thanks again

Once you've exchanged contracts you won't be so worried about it all. It's only a month - buy some soft furnishings :D

The top of our chain did this to us. We had all decided on the 7th June, but he wanted the 25th. He'd held us up for so long it came as no surprise to any of us. We all went for it as long as exchange happened asap. I know this wait isn't as long as yours, but we've been waiting since Feb, and I completely understand the impatience you're feeling! The weeks since exchange have gone so quickly, and we've had the fun of buying stuff for our new place. I'd agree to their dates as long as you exchange soon so you can relax.
