does jsa stop once job accepted even though i dont start yet?

I've been offered and have accepted a new job after being on jsa for the last two weeks.
The job isnt to start for another 3 weeks so will my jsa stop once i tell them seeing as i'm not jobseeking anymore?
I will be a bit gutted if it does as i wont have any income for those weeks.

any advice please? x

You continue to look for a short term job or even a full time one for the weeks from now till you start the job

Do not tell the JC you have a job till one day before you start but you have to keep looking for work

The truth is you have a job and if you tell them that , they will say you aren't looking for work in the meantime so may sign you off

You do not tell them and continue looking for work.

  • When I was unemployed and signed on getting JSA, I got a job, but I didn't start until 4 weeks later. First week, I looked for temp work.

I made up stuff on the job search forms as they have not got the time or the resources to checked if you have registered your details on a certain website or went to an interview with Bloggs and Co.

I told them about the job the final time I signed up as a fortnight later, I was working.

I got JSA to the day before I started work.

One bit of advice given to me by a JC advisor when I was on the dole & that was "do not sign-off until you actually walk through the door and start the job. You will then get your benefits paid right up to midnight of the day prior to your start date. I have also known people to sign off, turn-up to start and find the company has gone bust over the weekend. Having to re-apply for JSA again wastes a lot of time which would otherwise have been saved by not signing-off in the first place".

Given how frequently sanctions are now given, the suggestion of 'making up stuff' on an official document is very silly.

One thing you don't want to do is make stuff up

    Agreed

I definitely subscribe to not telling them until day 1 is complete hands up - although it is becoming the first day in most places now seems to be some sort of will you fit in day let alone trial periods which my advisor said is set to get all the more common - interviews aren't just the deciding vehicle any longer so maybe it will help or force people into jobs they don't want

Cantcope - have you asked the prospective employer when payday falls? - you might want to find that out if you can't cope without money at the mo, that is just another as big if not bigger curveball in my experience

The clue is in the name, Job Seeker's Allowance. If you aren't looking for a job you aren't entitled to receive it. I would keep looking, you never know, you might come across an even better job, but perhaps you could tailor you searches and applications in such a way that it's unlikely you would be offered anything that you don't want in the period until you start your new job.

That's good advice I was once offered a long term temp job and sent me book back the day prior to my start. At 5.00 that day the agency called and said the role had fallen through:eek:
