Moving to Ormeau Road?

Hi guys,

I was thinking of moving to the Ormeau Road but have no idea what it's like.

It would be middle to upper part of it.

I have a young daughter so maybe the Integrated Primary School would be an option.

Is it a good area to bring up a family.

I might have a chance of a house in Walmer Street.

Any advice would be very welcome.

Cheers,

J

Oh, well Walmer Street, lots of privately rented houses. So you will get the band hall at the bottom of the street. Ballynafeigh band have a club there. You are lucky the Deramore is closed now in the next street. Now sure if many Poles and Romanians rent there????

You would be better looking further up the Ormeau Road, say Rosetta area.
  • From my wife's friends' experience, would NOT recommend Forge Integrated.... sorry, but can't say much good about it. I send my kids to Holy Rosary off Sunnyside Street, as do my wifes friends now. (Both Mixed Marriages) Fab little school......
Would agree with the comment above about looking further up the Ormeau Road, i.e Rosetta area.

The other side of the road is much nicer. North Parade/South Parade are good bets.
  • Thanks for your replies.

I am in Bangor at the moment.

I am NIHE and trying to do a House swap to get as close to Lisburn as i can and as i work not far from the Ormeau Road the general area of Ormeau Rd, Knockbreda, Newtownbreda, Finaghy etc i thought would be my best chance as not many people want to go to Bangor from Lisburn as its too far even though we live in a nice quiet cul de sac.

Walmer Street is my only chance at the min but would rather wait to make sure its the right place for us before committing.

Walmer Street would be noisy, I'd say. Very small terraced houses and lots of students around.

    Have you visited the area?

To be honest I have been down the Ormeau Road a few times but not in and around Walmer St.

I grew up in Lisburn so there are pockets of Belfast I do not know well and would like somewhere in South Belfast to settle down with my family.

Think I will give Walmer a miss and have a look at the likes of Rosetta as suggested.

I might be back to ask more questions about other areas.

as you are a NIHE tenant can I suggest you don't give up a secure tenancy to rent privately.

Probably NOT Intended and I'm not massively familiar with the NIHE, but please don't tar all "Private Landlords" with the same brush... As an "Accidental" Landlord myself, I do everything within my means to keep our tenants happy. never had a complaint yet.... and it's still my house so in my interest to keep it well maintained.... there are some good ones out there too......
