Standard Life - Bonus Shares

I've a hazy recollection of a promise of some bonus shares if you held demutualisation shares for a certain period. Anyone know if that is the case or am I losing my marbles? Cheers!

That is true not sure when they will be issued though HTH.
Have you just had your cheque or extra shares come through for the yearly bonus?

I've just had a dividend cheque. Don't recall anything else!

Yes there was definitely an offer of bonus shares after 12 months, as a reward for not selling up immediately. I don't have the blurb in front of me but someone else can no doubt help here.

Yes 10th July... we will receive 1 extra share for every 20 we hold. That's the main reason I haven't got too concerned about the share price fluctuation (even though it's mainly gone up)... where the share price will go is not certain, but what is certain is that I'll get an extra 5% if I hold on to the shares.

I'm wondering if the share price will fall to compensate for the additional free shares. Does anyone know whether this is likely to happen?

Well it's not like when shares go ex-dividend, i.e. shares purchased after the xd date aren't worth as much as those before, so the price steps down. While it's true that some shareholders might take the opportunity to sell after receiving the bonus shares, if the market thought that was going to have an effect, then it could sell shares at any point, without waiting for that date, so I wouldn't expect to see any significant effect.
  • Expect to see a small fall in the days after the bonus shares are issued. Lots of people will be holding the shares to get this, and so will be selling at the same time. It'll be very short term fall though I imagine - the news of the bonus is well known and likely built into the share price.
