Hello MSEfolks,

Just wondering if you could help me. I got free music downloads on an old nokia music player / OVI music phone and would like to burn these tracks onto a cd but the player won't allow that nor will it allow a transfer to itunes etc.

In itunes it says that it can't convert the WMA files into MP3 because they're protected. Does anyone know how to unprotect WMA files so that they will play/burn anywhere?

Many thanks in advance!

Have you tried ripping the songs from the CD using Media Player? I managed to do that with some songs I bought from Napster that were protected.
  • Thanks BB - sounds like a possible plan but I'm not sure (I'm rubbish at tech!) how to get the files in media player. At the moment they only play in Nokia Music Player. Any advice on how to get the files to the windows media player?

    Many thanks :0)
  • Just found this:

anyone used it? Don't want to download until I know it works and is clean.

    Thanks!

Do you have the WMA files stored on your PC?

If so, just get a CD burning program such as DBpoweramp, and burn them.

Google 'burn WMA files to CD' for a raft of others, such as

    http://www.blazemp.com/wma_burner_software.htm

The one you referred to is an mp3 converter. You don't need that if you want to create a CD.

Put the CD into your PC's CD drive.
Go to My Computer, and right-click the CD drive.
Select 'Open with...' from the menu, and choose Windows Media Player.
That should open up the tracks on the CD. There should then be 'Rip' button visible near the top of the screen. If you click that, it should rip the tracks to your PC.
As I said, it worked with a CD of protected songs I'd downloaded, so it's worth a try.
