eyelet curtains: any drawbacks

I have been browsing options for ready made curtains and quite liked some of the eyelet ones which I saw. I have never actually bought these before. Mine have been pencil pleat ones. Are there any disadvantages which might not be obvious? This is for a bedroom window (standard size)

  • Just make sure the pole is high enough up so you can't see the eyelets from outside.

Making sure the cutains hang properly, whether open or closed, is a complete faff. Mine were quickly rehomed at the charity shop.

i find them ok as long as mentioned before the pole is high enough

I have lined mine with thermal linings and that was a bit more difficult as you have to stitch them in as there are no hooks etc
  • As they are premade you must be certain that your measurements are spot on, necessatating the need to check the sellers website thoroughly for sizes. I.E are they measuring from above the eyelet, or the top of the eyelet.
Be very careful as i have suffered in this regerd.

I would never order online. I would only buy from a shop which had them on display so I could check the measurements myself. This rule would be just the same for ready made pencil pleat curtains .

You have to take the curtain pole down to wash the curtains which means it is a 2 man job. Hence ours get washed when we decorate.
The rings also take the finish off the curtain poles.

Spray the curtain poles with polish. This really helps the rings to travel smoothly

Make sure you get really wide curtains so that they fall nicely in folds, whether open or shut.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
