I was 'CKhalvashi t/a XYZ', then became 'XYZ Limited' (which was owned by me), and later was sold to 'XYZ Holdings Limited', of which 75% is owned by me (and the other 25% owned by an external shareholder.)
As mentioned, try to get the appointment to discuss this for free, and see where you go. If I sat down with you to explain, it's actually simple, but to try to do this online (where I can't scribble diagram) is not.

Thanks. I can't really do complicated 'business' stuff but thanks for trying to explain.
As I say, Ebay selling type business as a sole trader is the route I want to go down, and learn the various extra ins and outs of that as it hopefully gets more successful (I'm quite experienced with Ebay in general).*Look for advice, not 'advise'*

As has been said you can call your business the exactly the same name as a another business as long as you do not try to pass yourself off as that business. Think about it. Is there only one Rose and Crown pub or Happy Fryer chip shop or A1 Taxis? If you form a Ltd Company, that limited company has to have a unique name but you can use a trading name which is not unique, but the passing off principle mentioned above still applies.
Ahhhh - ok!
You see, I'm starting to get a handle on the concept of a 'brand' and how, if you create and maintain that well, you will really help your business.
I'll be quite pee'd if I start sole trading with my brilliant name/brand and some sod nicks it and does it better! :rotfl:
It actually happened with the last name/business I had.
I have long-term health probs and trying to think lots about this before starting, to give it the best chance of succeeding/being sustainable.*Look for advice, not 'advise'*

This is all really helpful advice, thanks very much. I've learned one or two new things.*Look for advice, not 'advise'*
