Switching to Npower refused due to 'unsupported meter'?
Options
Hello all,
this is my first post so be gentle please
I have a solar PV installation and my current energy provider is SSE via Ebico. When the panels were installed I had an Import/export meter installed which is a fairly standard green Landis& Gyr affair.
I applied to switch to a 12 months dual fuel fixed rate with NPower middle of October (Note, I did not ask to switch my FIT contract - I am happy for that to stay with SSE and the online form did not require me to switch that as well)
I received a letter last week that NPower are 'unable to switch my contract because they are currently unable to support the type of meter I have installed'.
This is a complete con and makes it a nonsense to supposed to be able to switch energy provider! Especially as the meter has to be read manually anyway, so what's the difference?
It also means I will be missing out on the better fixed rate I applied for at the time and face a 9% increase on my current rate. Not happy at all!
I would be interested to hear from any NPower users who also have PV panels what type of meter they have before I contact NPower to complain. I also welcome any comments or feedback where others have been refused to switch energy providers.
Many Thanks for reading.
Regards
Anke

A supplier does not have to take you on, so really no grounds for complaint.Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

The only meter that concerns NPower is your existing import meter measuring usage from the grid-surely this wasn't changed when your solar PV system was installed? A private solar PV installer should not be touching your existing metering?
The only additional metering usually installed for a solar PV system is a generation meter. An export meter is pointless, as the FITs payments are based on a deemed 50% export anyway, not on what an export meter says.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I am with npower now but I moved from Sse who installed a import/export meter, I had no problems switching and I get paid for all the metered export I sell back to npower, otherwise what is the point of the meter.0

I wonder if the existing meter has a backstop? Maybe NP realise this might run backwards if its an old meter?
OP, is your electric supply meter the old dial type?0
