The way to remove the scum from your mum's house would be to show them the door.

JUst thought I would also say that British tap water or "council juice" as its called round here, is perfectly safe to drink.

If your mum is really concerned, rather than spending the predicted £1,000 plus on a water filter system, buy bottled spring water from Tescos at 25p for 2 litres.

I think there's a story on here somewhere about a company who leave bottles for collection to test your water with a view to selling a hideously expensive water filter. Distilled water was put in a bottle but it was still deemed of poor quality with lots of nasty things present. Obviously, the water isn't tested at all.

Or just buy a jug with some water filters.

  • I worked for these clowns, well say worked, I sat through their intensive 4 day training course until I figured out they were a suspicious outfit. The director, a smarmy grey haired bloke in his 50's claims to have made his money dealing shares, but just couldn't resist getting into the water filtration business ? erm. ok.
They promise the trainee managers a guaranteed salary of around £1300 per month. what the don't tell you is they have no leads for you to make this money. You are given a testing kit and have to ring up your friends and family who then have to give you names and addresses to pass on too the company. the test itself is a bit of an illusion and paints a very bad picture of united utilities. but lets be honest, the government wouldn't let the water come out of the tap if it was bad. What pure and cool don't mention either is that once you have paid out £500 for your bit of plastic that fits under the sink, that there is a maintenance contract too, they tell you not to mention that ! So YES this is a scam, there was even a piece on it in the daily mirror some weeks ago about a girl who was on the training course with me, she was made to work for a month without any wages ever being paid. Its just a shame that in this business climate they are going to have no shortage of fools looking for work applying for these jobs on the promise of riches that will never be. AVOID AVOID AVOID

Go and watch watchdog on the BBC Iplayer.

Having been a water filter salesman in the past myself, I can assure you that the stuff they said is total BS.

However, that said filtered water is far nicer, but filters need changing on a regular basis. If you want filtered water - by a filter jug for in the fridge.

Any company that tries to get sales out of you by getting you to badger family and friends is not one I'd like to work for.

This reminds me of these kirby vacuum salesman that show you all the grime in your carpet to make you feel worried about hygiene and embarrassed and ashamed of your filthy home..

The problem is job centres are allowing firms like this to advertise with them

I can't believe that this scam is still going. My ex husband fell for this way back in around 1986/87. Blimey! x
