Induction hob KW differences

Hi Everyone,

I'm just ordering up a new induction hob for our kitchen refit. We'd like a Neff model to match the oven we'll be buying and in the lower end of Neff's induction range there are two hobs- (Sorry I can't post links but check out appliances online for the full spec)

Neff T40B31X2GB
Neff T41D40X2

One of the differences I can spot is that the T40B31X2GB has an electrical connection of 2.99KW and the more expensive T41D40X2 has an electrical connection of 7.2KW.

I'm a complete luddite when it comes to all this stuff but wanted to ask the community here whether the 7.2KW is worth the extra money? Does the extra electrical input allow for better performance from the hob or have I read all that wrong. The second, higher rated model is about £100 more expensive but given the lifespan of the hob I'd rather get the right one than regret not spending £100.

Thanks for your help!
Dan

I believe the kW rating is the total for all hobs i.e. divide the figure by 4.

The higher power one will let you heat/cook food faster This might be handy if you do a lot of frying or boiling.
If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button! ;)
  • thanks, that's what I was thinking, in which case the cheaper Neff might not be a good plan given that it's literally half the KW rating of some of the others... Off to do so more research!

The Neff T40B31X2GB induction hob has an automatic default setting of 20amps, however , it also has the option of altering the power output to one of three additional levels equivalent to 16, 13, or 10 amps.
If one of these levels is chosen then the hob automatically restricts the maximum power to the chosen setting

The lower wattage hob will have been adapted to run from a normal 13A socket - it's just under the 3kW limit.

In reality, the individual elements, all added together, will come to well over 13A, but the hob will reduce the power to each if you turn on too many at once.

If you have a dedicated cooker point to wire to, then the 13A limit is un-necessary.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

The Neff T40B31X2GB is designed for the replacement market. It allows the power to be limited to 13A if the power supply doesnt exist. If its being wired into a 13A feed it will still offer better performance compared to a hotplate or ceramic. If you are going to put in a new feed, but the higher spec 7.2kW hob.

  • Thank you for all the help so far, we've got an electrician coming over this afternoon to quote up a few jobs this being one of them. Hopefully we'll be able to run a new feed for the hob and use the existing one for a new double oven (Currently a freestanding cooker so only 1 feed) All will become clear I'm sure once a professional has had a look.

Thank you for clearing up the KW rating, Ryder72 - good to know that if for whatever reason 13A is the best thing for us to stick to that the lower rated Neff is still a good plan.

    Cheers,
    Dan
  • All sorted now, Electrician is running a second 30A feed for the oven and extending the existing 30A supply from where the freestanding cooker currently is to where the hob will be cut into the new worktop.

Hob-wise we've ended up going for an AEG from John Lewis that has a £75 cash back offer on saving us around £100 in all compared to a Neff hob:j

Thank you again for the help I've had on this thread!
